Altit Fort is a historic fort located in the Hunza Valley of Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. The fort is one of the oldest and most well-preserved forts in the region and is a popular tourist attraction for visitors to the area.

The fort was built around 1100 AD by the Mir of Hunza, who ruled the region at the time. The fort served as the primary residence for the Mir and his family, as well as a strategic military outpost. The fort was built using traditional methods and materials, including stone, mud, and timber.

Over the centuries, the fort was expanded and renovated by various rulers of Hunza. The most significant expansion took place in the 16th century, when the Mir of Hunza, Shah Salim Khan, added several new buildings and features to the fort, including a mosque and a watchtower.

Today, the fort is open to the public and visitors can explore the various buildings and structures that make up the fort. Some of the highlights of the fort include the Royal Residence, which is the largest building in the fort and features intricate wood carvings and decorative motifs. The fort also has a museum that showcases the history and culture of the Hunza Valley, with displays of traditional costumes, musical instruments, and handicrafts.

In addition to its historical and cultural significance, the fort also offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Visitors can take a leisurely walk around the fort and enjoy the scenic beauty of the area.

Altit Fort is an important cultural and historical landmark in Pakistan and attracts visitors from all over the world. It is a testament to the rich history and heritage of the Hunza Valley and is a must-visit destination for anyone travelling to Gilgit-Baltistan.
